When you count calories the focus is on a numeric value instead of what matters most. The most important measure of a food is not it’s caloric value. The most important measure of a food is its nutritional value. It is the quality of the food that matters most.
One oreo cookie is 45 calories
One serving of broccoli is 50 calories.
So oreos are better for you than broccoli?
NO! Wrong! Obviously!
Stop counting calories and focus on quality whole foods. When you eat vegetables, fruits, proteins, healthy fats, etc., in a balanced way– calories don’t matter.
In this article from Health.com, Dr. Ludwig explains, “When humans try to reduce their calorie balance, the body fights back.” Your body will send you stronger signals of hunger and fatigue to get you to eat more. Counting Calories could make you GAIN weight!
It goes on to say “Instead of choosing a meal based on calories, pick foods from all three categories: one high in fiber, like a vegetable or whole grain; a protein source (think: chicken or salmon); and a healthy fat, like a salad with olive oil and chopped avocado.”
It’s great advice. I released 40 pounds, trimmed down 7 sizes, and rewarded myself with a new wardrobe (out of necessity).
The last reason to stop counting calories is the freedom you gain! I always eat till I’m full, and I never worry about eating “too much.” It is awesome.
So, stop counting calories, eat quality foods, upgrade your wardrobe 😉
